Hello fellas, and merry xmas. I was just looking for help on OD. I purchased it, downloaded and installed it..... however, after registering it in the Tools menu, i still keep getting an error message when trying to download the products that come with it ( e.g.; Desktopx, WB6, etc.... ) Any help would be wonderful. Very respectfully,Derek

Alright... so the dx.xml file is there...... but when i try to open it... this is what i get:

The XML page cannot be displayed
Cannot view XML input using style sheet. Please correct the error and then click the Refresh button, or try again later.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

An invalid character was found in text content. Error processing resource 'file:///C:/Program Files/Stardock/SDCentral/data...

This is probably the cause of all my headaches. Corrupt file? wtf? Anyone that can help?

Also... what other files r supposed to be in there? There r 2 more. And after i downloaded the batch file... i just opened my downloads folder and double clicked it. It ran and completed, however... i don't know what it did... or if it was in the right place to do it.

Very respectfully..

PS- we r getting closer

I don't think so......I can't believe this hasn't been resolved.

Let's review:
I purchased it, downloaded and installed it..... however, after registering it in the Tools menu, i still keep getting an error message when trying to download the products that come with it ( e.g.; Desktopx, WB6, etc.... )

Is that the real order you did it in or did you install just SDC and input serial?

I have the error 13 message. I even tried uninstalling.... rebooting... installing, rebooting... and still the problem. I will go and try the cookie thing. As for winblinds 6, it isn't the only program, all the others i wish to download keeps giving me the same error. I have all of my antivirus and firewall off.... still no luck.

i allowed cookies in both explorer and firefox..... and cleared my cookie cache

-- [Installation] ---------------------------------------------------
Download: C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\data\public\dx\beta\dx.xml 1
Load: C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\data\public\dx\beta\dx.xml 0 (could not open downloaded file list)
Result: Installation failed (13)

This is not a security app problem. This is not an SDC problem. This is not a cookie problem. This is not a user privilege problem.

This is either an install done w/o the serial input first and/or the fact that you appear to be installing beta's versus production versions and I have no idea why one would do that. You need to get everything Stardock related off your machine (including registry entries). Then install SDC and input serial #. If SDC shows you logged in and registered properly, install production versions (if you get them installed correctly, then move on to the beta's). If it doesn't show you logged into your account, do not install any apps and come back here.

You can use this:
WWW Link to get rid of Stardock apps excluding SDC. For that, you'll have to use Windows Add/Remove. Re-boot prior to re-installing SDC.

Note: Make sure you have .NET framework installed on your machine: WWW Link

Sometimes the quickest solution is the longest do a reformat, ensure firewall is enabled before connecting to the net (what are you doing disabling it,it's your primary protection from infection from the net not your antivirus) go directly to microsoft update & don't leave until the OS has all the available updates by using the windows update not auto update,i could go into reasons why i suggest to reformat the only thing i'll say is if you have broadband you would've been back up & running in a day & no more than two,how long has it been since you started this thread ,it's also good policy to reformat yearly.
good luck

edit: if possable it would be wise to invest in another hdd & some drive imaging software like ghost or acronis, coz when problems like yours arise you can be up running again in less than a couple of minutes with a back up,then it will only take 2-3 hours or so to re-image the troublesome drive if transferring 200GB of data & your back to a stable computer

I'm still wondering if you have the demo versions. You can get at least some satisfaction while you're waiting. WindowBlinds, IconPackager and DesktopX are all available, and will totally change your desktop. Theme Manager allows you to build a package that includes all of the above, plus logons, bootskins, cursors, wallpaper, Sysmetrix, Rainlendar, and so on. It isn't necessary, but it makes it easy to change everything at once, and save your theme for later use.
IconPackager is good for 30 days; WindowBlinds 5.xx is good for 60 days; I don't know how long WindowBlinds 6.xx lasts, it might only be 30 days. You can get WindowBlinds 5.51, the last version of v5 at filehippo.com; on the first page there are categories of utilities; look for Desktops, or something like that, WB6 is listed, but if you click on it, you'll see old versions are available; download v5.51, and you'll get 60 days for sure. Do you know about Sysmetrix, Rainlendar, Logon Studio (XP only), Bootskin, CursorXP (and CursorFX (beta), Winamp and so on? Skins for these and others are all available at wincustomize.com and other places. Some skinners have themes for all of these utilities, giving your desktop a unified look.
I'm curious as to your state of knowledge of skinning. I only got started a few months ago, and I only discovered it by accident. Have you actually applied any skins yet?
Before I go, please know that these demos are installed like any normal program, and don't need Stardock Central to get up and going. stardock.com is where to start, you get a few there, the rest are at download.com, except for the old version of WindowBlinds, found at filehippo.com.
Let me know if you've done this. This will ease the pain of waiting. Good luck.

I have Windowblinds 6.0 trial, and Vistalogon which i downloaded. I will get the rest tomarrow. I have no idea what sysmetrix is.... as well as rainlender. I have just started skinning also, and it is a lot of fun and unique. I have been doing a couple skins for the Xion music player.... and am hoping to move onto skinning winamp within the next couple weeks. I don't know if there is a way to add friends on here, but contact me and i will give you my email or whatever. Maybe we can learn some stuff... or find a project to work together on. It will keep me busy and learning while i am here in iraq.

P.S.- Can ANYONE SOLVE THIS PUZZLE?!? hehehehehe

There is a private message system here, but I have no idea how it works. If you want to leave your e-mail address in public, I'll reply.
Sysmetrix is a free program that does a lot of things beyond system measurements; you can add program shortcuts, media players, and so on. It's skinnable. Rainlendar is a calendar/note/event program, also skinnable. It has a free & paid version. Go to wincustomize.com, look on the right side, and you will see a categories list. Click on Sysmetrix, for instance, and it will take you to a page of Sysmetrix skins. At the top of the page will be a description of the program, and a link to the Sysmetrix website. The same goes for other applications. Poke around wincustomize.com,
download some skins for IconPackager, for instance, then apply them.
Stardock.com is a good place to start; you'll find links for downloading trial versions of the paid programs, and the free ones like CursorXP. You might be interested in ObjectDock, a skinnable bar that holds icons representing shortcuts to programs, folders, etc. The icons and docks are changeable. There is a free version with one dock; the paid version can have multiple docks and tabbed docks. I discovered the world of skinning by looking for a launcher to save me the trouble of clicking forever to get here and there. You can hide the taskbar, and access the Start menu using the dock. Some skinners create icons and docks to go with the WindowBlinds skin and IconPackager theme. About the only thing you can't skin is the inside of the window. You'll be amazed at how fantastic you can make your computer look when you apply all the packages available
through ObjectDesktop and ObjectDock.
Did you uninstall the trial version of WindowBlinds before you tried to download ObjectDesktop?
It's necessary that you do that. I'd delete everything, including Stardock Central, clean your registry, reinstall Stardock Central, click on ObjectDesktop on the left, and register again by entering your serial number, and click update. I've never seen Error 13; I have no idea what it is.
Anyway, keep plugging away.

I have already un-installed everything.... reinstalled and re input my serial. Still no mojo. As for the Sysmetrix.... it looks cool.... but i have no idea what sytem measurements are... i am new to this. The Rainlender also looks cool.... and as for object dock... i have that and have skinned it a few times. I will show you my current desktop before i start using any windows blinds skins. I really want to learn to make amazing things... but can't really do much until i get this Stardock thing resolved. Seems no one knows what an error 13 is. Upsetting. Here is my email : eodstuntman@yahoo.com.

ttyl buddy.

MS error 13 is an invalid data error. That is not an MS error.

Note: Make sure you have .NET framework installed on your machine: WWW Link

If that in fact is already installed on your machine, then:

Start/ Run/ - type (c/p): %windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_regiis.exe -i

Now try the downloads.
